Dress It Up A Little! My Favorite Winter Statement Pieces

I don’t know about you, but I tend to feel over the winter season by the end of January. I always look forward to seeing the blooming cherry blossoms and tulips of spring! But alas, we cannot force spring into existence and we are without a time machine. I say live in the moment and find yourself some winter staples that make you excited to go out in the cold! Here I am again to give you some inspiration to dress it up a little and perhaps find some statement pieces that you too will want for the winter months!

Chicwish was kind enough to send me a few outfit pieces and I am so excited to share with you what I picked out!

Faux Fur Coat

When I say dress it up a little, what better way to do that than wearing a faux fur coat? I mean if you look up the definition of glamorous you will find faux fur coat listed. Not in yours? Well, then you did not look in the correct dictionary. This faux fur coat is not only glamorous, but it is also super soft. It feels like a great big teddy bear is giving you a hug. Or if you were me as a kid, instead of a great big teddy bear I owned a great big penguin. His name was Cronkite (which fun fact – I guess there was an anchorman named Walter Cronkite who was uber popular in the 60s and 70s… the more you know).

The other thing I love about this coat is the unique detail of a faux leather belt. Now you get the best of both fauxs. This coat is definitely a winter statement piece! And in order to make this baby pop I slipped into a little red dress and put on some red heels to match. This red dress is one of my all time favorites from Amanda Uprichard (through Revolve). I have had it for a couple years so sadly it is no longer in stock, but I have attached some alternative red dresses below.

Sequin Sweater

It’s all about the little details of an outfit piece for me. I want to wear something that is unique and speaks to my personality. Annnnnd here come the flashbacks of my middle school years wearing 4 of the same Hollister Co logo shirts in different colors. I mean if that is your thing, do you lovely! When I discovered my love for expression of myself with what I wear in high school, I have never gone back! R.I.P. Hollister logo tees.

This sweater screams unique winter statement piece. I absolutely love the sequin detail throughout. It is such a warm and cozy sweater and doesn’t feel scratchy like some sequin clothing does. I also love that it is slightly oversized. It is the perfect chunky sweater to tuck into your jeans or a skirt as I did here. Live in a colder climate during winter and worried about wearing a skirt? No problem! Just put on some over-the-knee boots +/- some tights and you are golden my friend! I say wear the skirt in February if you want to!

Plaid Skirt

The perfect plaid skirt does not exi– oh wait a minute, looks like it does exist. This skirt is made of a wool blend and is perfect for winter (remember the OTK boots and tights tip). It features a comfortable inner lining (definitely not wool blend for that part) and the best part – shorts! They got you covered girlfriend. Not that this skirt is the type that will blow up in your face in the wind, but still it’s nice to have!

I actually did have a dress blow up in the wind when I was in college at the University of Wyoming right as I was about to enter the Classroom Building. If anyone has been to Wyoming, you know that the wind there is no joke. A guy was walking out of the building right at that same time and his eyes could not have grown any wider. Thankfully having been born and raised in Wyoming, I was wise enough to wear spandex shorts under my dress.

My favorite thing to do for winter skirt outfits is pair the skirt with a sweater and a waist belt. A chunky/oversized sweater is perfect to keep you warmer and the belt just adds a bit more form to the look. In other words, it accentuates your beautiful form no matter what that may look like. Repeat after me – accentuate. Why? Because it’s a fun word to say and because your beauty is worth accentuating. See what I did there? Fit it in again. Now you’re going to have that word pop in your head the whole rest of this day. You’re welcome.

Well friends, this is the part of the post where I form my conclusions and let you go on with your regularly scheduled programming such as life (until my next post – then hopefully you’ll spare a few more minutes for your girl Jen). My conclusions are that winter statement pieces such as a cozy faux fur coat, a sparkly sweater and a dashing plaid skirt help make winter less crappy and more fun. Find those outfit pieces that make you excited to leave the house. You should always choose something that makes you feel confident. Something that makes you feel like YOU. Something that you feel accentuates your natural beauty. Oops, I did it again.
